Innovative Wavy Hair Products To Try
Welcome! If you’re relatively new to this blog, most articles are based around specific tips, techniques, and routines for wavy hair. There are many more innovative wavy hair products than there were when I started this site. BUT, my personal hair product collection is relatively small.
I personally like to fully use up products (here’s an empties list and review to check out). Lately though, I’ve been obsessed with looking through new products, and figured I’d share what sounds cool to try out!
If you’ve tried any of these, or want a specific review, please let us all know in the comments 🙂

What it is: a soft hold hairspray
How it’s innovative: This is a NON-AEROSOL hairspray. This minimizes environmental impact, which is awesome!
How I’d Try It: In hot & humid seasons, I like to finish my hair with a hairspray to combat frizz and maintain definition. So after applying a gel or mousse, I’d spray this after everything is 100% dry.
What is it? the Be Gentle Be Kind line by Briogeo contains a low-poo, a conditioner, and a detangling spray. There is also a value kit, which includes all 3. The value kit is what I’d try because I’d want to try them all together.
How It’s Innovative: This line is FRAGRANCE FREE! Since when does that happen?! Specifically, the line is “fragrance and essential oil free, dermatologist-approved, and formulated with skin-soothing ingredients. . .” according to Briogeo.
How I’d Use: I’d use all products as directed, then follow up with my normal curl activator and hard hold mousse. That’s where my “baseline” is, so I’d know how the products work. I’m also always looking for gentle detanglers for my kiddos so I’d test it on them too!
Ppsssssst: want a full list of fragrance free wavy hair products? Let me know in the comments and I’ll investigate!
This product likely needs no introduction or photo, but the Dyson supersonic hairdryer has been clicked into and out of my cart at least 10 times since it’s launch.
How It’s Innovative: The Dyson supersonic is extremely powerful, and contains a microprocessor with intelligent heat control to prevent/minimize heat damage.
How I’d Use: To diffuse my hair! I have thick, coarse 2a/2b hair. I currently use the xtava black orchid diffuser when I diffuse. BUT, my hairdryer is a $15 dryer from 10+ years ago.
I don’t use it very often, but if I had a hairdryer that was fast, I’d use it. I’ve heard MANY real-life wavies say that the Dyson supersonic hairdryer cut their dry time 5x to 10x (depending on whom I talked to). So if it’s THAT fast to diffuse…..I’m interested!
At the $400 price tag, it’s either going to be a Christmas/Birthday gift (probably combined!), or specifically to test how much faster it is and share the results here. So if you REALLY want to know about the Dyson hairdryer, please let me know. FYI, if you’re thinking about purchasing, QVC tends to have the best prices on Dyson sets!
Texture ID has lines for wavy hair, curly hair, and coily hair separately, so naturally, the wave line intrigued me. What stuck out though was the serum. This serum is made to manage frizz, but the second ingredient is glycerin.
While glycerin is NOT bad, and does not create frizz itself, it is more likely to make hair frizzy certain times of the year (when it’s humid, or when the dew point is in a specific range).
Why it’s unique: It’s a silicone free frizz serum. Most serums like this would have ingredients that aren’t great.
How I’d Use: as a finishing serum for extra shine, especially if I did my overnight heatless curls!
This gel is more a “wish list” item for a specific reason: it’s based in the UK! I feel bad when UK residents send me emails and ask for product recommendations. Boucleme is also available on Amazon, so it’s accessible from that standpoint. The brand is higher end pricing, but has a great ingredient list. This gel is super lightweight but is said to offer good hold too.
Note: if you’re in the UK, PLEASE let me know other brands you’d like reviews on. I’d like to test out some products, but I’m not sure who to ask what’s easily available!
Ecoslay is a brand that I’ve been meaning to try for AGES. These contain all natural ingredients. And this product in particular is a flaxseed and aloe curl definer! It sounds like it’s be a perfect wave enhancer, so once I run out of my current fave this will probably be the first I purchase from this list. Ecoslay is black-owned (here’s a list of Black Owned brands you should know about!), and its also highly regarded on Instagram. I do have a DIY flaxseed gel recipe if you want a cheaper alternative, but I love the idea that Orange Marmalade uses flaxseed and aloe.
This is a quick wishlist item as opposed to as innovative as others, but dang have I wanted to use this for awhile. Ouidad is a highly regarded brand for curly hair (and wavy hair). While my experience with the Ouidad stronger hold advanced climate control gel did NOT go well, I’m still super curious about the brand. P.S. TONS of wavies love that gel, so if you’re considering it, go for it. I personally returned it though because of the price point.
This claims to help soften and moisturize curls (waves) and basically everything a wavy could want. So I’m ready to see if it lives up to its claims and the brand reputation.
How it’s Innovative: The formula claims to be “feather light” yet a cream, so I’d love to see what the consistency really is lie and how it would work to define my hair.
How I’d Use: I would wait until fall/winter, when my hair tends to want more moisture in styling products.
I hope this helps you find an innovative product for wavy hair, and that maybe it inspires your wish list too! Also, your wish list can also stay as wishes…..that Dyson hairdryer? I don’t know if I’ll ever feel comfortable enough to spend that much $$ on a hairdryer. IF I did, it’d be for requests!
Let everyone know: Have you tried any of these?!

I recently bought a refurbished Dyson hair dryer directly from Dyson for <$300. It came with all the accessories. One downside – only 1 year warranty vs. 2 for buying new.
Yay! How do you like it so far? I have seen that option, but I’m not sure about refurbished items (especially since it’s still pricy!) If it was under $200 I’d probably go for it. Did it shorten your drying time? -Rachel
