So, I try not to drag specific product or brands, but this product was so bad that I can’t not mention it. And it’s actually been discontinued, so it appears I wasn’t the only one who thought so. And that’s why I’m going to talk about it now as the worst wavy hair product I’ve ever used. A quick disclaimer, that this was targeted in the Living Proof “Curl” line. There is no distinct wavy line. That said, I believe the results would’ve been even worse on curly hair.
The Worst Wavy Hair Product: Living Proof Detangling Rinse
Living Proof discontinued their entire curl line, but I’m definitely not missing out on the detangling rinse. First of all, I think the product cost $28 (it was definitely in the mid-upper $20s). It’s main purpose was to detangle curls, but the instructions say to rinse it out and be done. Okay…..except there’s nothing moisturizing about the product. Imagine Devacurl’s low poo (which I love!) mixed with a gel (yes, really!) and that was about the consistency. There is no moisturizing element, so I used conditioner afterwards. Because my conditioner always had good slip, this step seemed extra and not super helpful. Considering the product cost 3-4x as much as my conditioner, this didn’t make sense. But here’s the biggest issue…..it made my hair super tangly over time. Yep. The detangler is what tangled my hair. I wanted to believe it was other products but without fail, if I used this detangler, I lost more hair while detangling, and it became drier, frizzier, and more tangly. Add into that the strong perfumey scent and this product is the worst product I’ve ever used.
deep down…i knew better
Now here’s the thing, I made it worse on myself. Because this product is SO expensive, and I’m normally a budget shopper, I wanted to love it. I wanted to use it. Normally, I’m all about returning, but I actually purchased this with a returned gift. That’s why I went for something so fancy and unusual. If I had paid for the product outright, I would’ve returned it. No question. But now I’ve been stuck with wanting to finish it up, but also not wanting to ruin my hair. The struggle!
Because this product dried out my hair so much though, I ended up finding a great budget hair mask, the Maui Moisture Smooth & Repair Hair Butter! So while the product was terrible, it did lead to some good.
Now tell me wavy friends, what’s the worst wavy hair product you’ve used?
