Whether you choose to call it a messy bun, or its fancy sister, the “top knot,” some days you just have to leave your hair like that. Maybe it’s day six hair (hey this is a naturally wavy hair site, we do not judge!), maybe you got lazy and didn’t protective style your hair last night. Maybe you just want your neck not to be sweating in this dang humidty, or maybe you don’t want it all blown around or pulled by your 5 month old for the thousandth time. Maybe your wave/curl pattern is 2A-3B all in one day. Whatever your reason, there will be days that you throw your hair up and that is OKAY.
Seriously, don’t feel bad about throwing your hair up in a bun. Unless it gives you a headache (and yes, I can relate to that), it can be a great way to just get things done.
I think those early on (even within the first two years or so) push so hard on being “curly girl method” perfect that we forget about real life. My hair looked like crap a lot when I started this, and it had nothing to do with the method. It had everything to do with the fact that I was an engineer who wore a hard hat for at least half of my day. I also worked in a hot environment, so it was just overall crazy. So you know what I would do back in my office? Braid it or put it in a messy bun. And the world went on, and my hair still grew well and got healthier. So you can still throw your hair up if you want. Not that you need my permission, but I’m giving it to you anyways.
We all need this mug right now.

So go wear that messy bun and have a fantastic day!
