I finally used up my DevaCurl Celebrate Wavy Kit! (full review coming very soon!) and decided to pick up a less expensive replacement option. I was looking at a few options (that I’ll probably eventually purchase) but settled on the SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Line. I got this at Ulta on Buy One Get One 50% off and with double rewards points! Love combining those deals when I actually need to buy something. So anyways, I used the shampoo/conditioner…excuse me, creme rinse for the first time. For a background my hair is 2B wavy with a few 2A sections, medium thickness, and low-normal porosity. I was hoping this would give me some volume, better wave definition from the “weightless” feel on my hair, and keep my hair hydrated. So here are my initial thoughts on the Sheamoisture fruit fusion coconut water weightless shampoo and creme rinse after using the first time!
SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo
Packaging and scent
The packaging on these products is super cute. I love the bright writing, it feels perfect for spring and summer and just makes me happy. The only thing I dislike about the packaging is that the creme rinse has a pump, but the shampoo does not. This bugs me because the bottles are not symmetrical, but also because I like to have a pump on all my products! I did not expect to like the scent very much because I don’t typically like fruity scented hair products, wow! I REALLY enjoyed this. I’m sure it’s nicer because the weather is warm, but this smelled like a fruity cocktail you’d have on the beach. I know that sounds over-the-top, but the scent was great. If you 100% HATE fruity scents, you won’t like this. I promise though, it smells like real fruit and isn’t sickly sweet. I really really like it! I’m not sure if I would’ve loved the scent as much if I would’ve tried it around November/December though, but this scent is perfect for spring/summer.
The Feel/Ingredient Issue
Hello lather! If you are looking for a sulfate free shampoo that still lathers, you will probably want to try this. It feels like a normal shampoo. TBH, that concerns me. I believe it is due to the Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate. This ingredient seems like a replacement for Sodium Lauroyl Sulfate. In fact, here is something I am very frustrated with Ulta about. On the Ulta website, the ingredient Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate is listed as ingredient number four on the list. This was lower in the ingredient list than other brands, and is the reason I chose to buy this shampoo. However, in the store, my bottle actually lists Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate as the second ingredient, directly after water. So instead of getting more good stuff in the bottle, I’m getting more of that Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate. This was very frustrating as a consumer to have mis-information on the website, and I do plan to leave a review on the Ulta website which shows this. I went for the purchase though because I still wanted to try it.
As you can see, on the Ulta website, the first three ingredients are Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Juice, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice followed by Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate.

The in shower feel
Again, this product lathered really well and left my hair feeling quite clean. It felt like a “normal” shampoo. It was nice, but again concerning. The feel was nice and it spread around really well. My hair felt almost a little too clean. Overall though, it seems pretty good. If you had hair that needs more moisture, this might be a good clarifying shampoo option!
SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Creme Rinse
Packaging and scent
The packaging is better on the creme rinse because it has a pump! Colors are still the happy bright pink. The scent is similar to the shampoo, just less intense as I expected. I enjoyed the scent in this too.
The feel
This kind of felt more like lotion in my hands rather than conditioner. It was interesting. From the name alone, I was worried that this would not be hydrating enough. My hair may be mostly 2B waves, but it drinks up moisture like crazy. I was hoping that the lightweight conditioner would help with body and fullness. The lotion-like feel of this conditioner made it more difficult to detangle my hair, and I felt that I needed to use a lot. I rinsed it out fully (while scrunching), but I think in the future I am going to intentionally leave in a bit of product. I think this would make an excellent leave-in conditioner for wavies, but it doesn’t seem to cut it as a full on conditioner. This might even make a good co-wash, but I’m still not brave enough to try that method of cleansing.
How I Styled My Hair After
I used a mixture of my curl cream, gel, and oil. Normally I wouldn’t add oil, but because of the conditioner, I felt I needed to add it in for moisture. To be fair, I do think that the gel is also contributing to dryness, not just the SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Weightless line. I put this all into my hair straight out of the shower and squished it in. I plop (basically just put my hair up) in a very soft t-shirt and go to bed. When I woke up, my hair was 90% dry. This is typical for me.
The Result
Overall, My hair feels pretty dry, which is a bummer, but not unexpected. My hair does seem to have noticeably more volume than normal at my roots, so I do appreciate that! My waves are also a bit more defined than usual, which is good. I noticed a bit more frizz than normal on my wash day, but I also think I moved around in my sleep quite a bit. My t-shirt was only half on my head (which is not normal for me) and the half that wasn’t in the t-shirt is the part that is more frizzy. That said, I do think the dryness caused by the strength of the shampoo and the lack of hydration in the creme rinse contributed to the frizziness too. One big positive is definitely the cost. To get both full size products, it would cost $23 (that is not with BOGO 50% off – I paid a bit over $17 for both). To get the full size DevaCurl Low Poo and conditioner, which have 1oz less per bottle, the cost is $44. So that is also a big thing to consider and a huge positive for this line.

What is Next?
I’m considering returning the SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless creme rinse for a different SheaMoisture conditioner with more hydration or just a different conditioner altogether (see my note below on this) Another option would be to get the SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Hair Masque and use that once a week. I’ve been meaning to pick up a hair masque regardless, but I’m not sure I want to solely because my conditioner is underperforming. The other option I have is to try leaving in a lot of the product. I haven’t been using a leave in conditioner, and I do see some great potential there for this product. I’m going to try that next time and leave the update on my Instagram, so if you are interested to see how that works out follow me on there (I need more wavies in my life!)
Note: I know so many people say that they don’t use the same shampoo or conditioner, but that drives me crazy. I need my things to match. I’m considering getting a pretty glass bottle set for my shower though so I can just put whatever in there and it will still look nice. That would make me feel better. I may go this route in the near future, and if I do I’ll let you know!
Have YOU tried any of the SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless line? Also, yes it must be the longest product name ever. Let me know what you think, recommendations for a hydrating conditioner, or if this review helped at all. Thanks!
With Motivation,
Rachel
I find all of their conditioners lacking. They leave a waxy build up that I had to remove with Ultra Swim shampoo. Love the scent of the coconut oil line, but the conditioner left a build up but did not moisturize.
That’s what I’ve heard too about the buildup. I found the waxy buildup with the deep conditioner I tried as well. The scents are SO good, I just wish they gave the moisture and results too. Absolutely love this shampoo as a clarifying wash though!
